An Edmonton Road Trip
In the middle of February Breanne, Dayna and I went on a road trip up to Edmonton. We packed a lot in our 2 days in the city and left with the desire that we want to go back up there soon and spend more time on the next trip (specifically so we can hit up the new & improved water park!).
The main event of our trip was to attend AWE’s Leadership day. One of our highlights was the morning keynote speaker Ruth Kelly, Pres & CEO of Venture publishing. Not only is she hilarious but she’s also inspiring, bold and driven. We really enjoyed hearing her speak, great way to start the day. The other highlight was celebrating Dayna’s nomination for AWE’s 2016 Celebration of Achievement Awards Program.
Attending the AWE Leadership day introduced us to Poppy Barley and we fell in love with their story, purpose, and of course their stunning custom made shoes. Which are made in family owned factories screened for ethical working conditions. I can envision a few of these beauties making a home in my closet in the very near future.
We toured around the city and found some awesome spots, here are the places we recommend venturing into when you are in Edmonton:
Jacek Chocolates for delicious handmade artesian chocolates using the freshest & super tasty ingredients. We had been dying to try these ever since learning about Jacek a year or so ago. They are one of our fellow ATB We Grow Alberta Companies. Some of our favs from the 2016 Spring Collection included Pretzel Caramel and Matcha.
We hit up Rositizado for delicious Mexican, the Roasted Fennel rocked our world and we sampled quite a few of the margaritas, all passed our taste test . The next morning we had a great breaky at Blue Plate Diner and then ventured to Dauphine Bakery to get a coffee, cookie and set up shop for a strategy session in the cozy corner of the beautiful bistro/bakery. Fan favs included the Peanut Butter Cream cookie and whole wheat bread with lots of butter – the French lunch specials looked amazing too.
We want to give one more shout out to another inspiring and driven female entrepreneur we had the chance to meet; Nikki Smith of Sculpt Barre Studio. Nikki, a nominee for an AWE award, has the exciting and fresh energy of being at the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey. She is passionate, eager and humble – we enjoyed getting to chat with her and learn her story.
I also have to give major props to Dayna for driving both ways, allowing Brea and I the occasional nap, and after pulling the short straw graciously sleeping on the 1 inch thick mattress in the pull out sofa. Even with 5 extra blankets for padding that thing was barely sleep worthy. One thing we know for sure is that no matter where we go and what we do the 3 of us always have lots of laughs and fun together.
